Bowman Scores Game-Winner in Final Minutes in Road Victory at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) scored the game-winner, and KU's fourth goal in the final 8:00, with 1:06 to play to cap the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team's 8-7 victory over Edinboro University Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) battle at Sox Harrison Stadium.

The win snapped a four-game skid for the Golden Bears (6-6, 2-5 PSAC).

Kutztown took its first and only lead of the game off Bowman's game-winner. Edinboro (1-10, 0-7) led 6-4 with less than 10:00 to play, but the Golden Bears scored four of the final five goals to cement the amazing comeback.

With Edinboro up 6-4 with less than 10:00 to play, Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) scored her 31st goal of the year at the 7:08 mark off a free-position attempt to pull KU within one.

Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) notched the equalizer with 4:05 left off a similar free-position attempt to tie the game at 6-6.

Edinboro did not take long to recapture the lead, however, as it scored with 2:35 left to regain its lead. 57 seconds later, Kutztown once again tied the game, this time courtesy of Emily Leeb (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow).

32 seconds after Leeb's goal, the Golden Bears took the lead for the first time thanks to Bowman's game-winning goal. It came off a free-position attempt and an assist from Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) – the 44th of her career (one shy of second all-time).

Despite a late push by Edinboro, the Kutztown defense held on to the lead to complete the comeback, notching Kutztown's second conference victory on the season.

The Golden Bear offense was led by Gabriele, who notched a team-high three goals.

Huggins was the main distributor for the Golden Bears, as she tallied a game-high three assists.

Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) made history today as she tallied five groundballs, bringing her career total to 205 to become the leader in program history for career groundballs.

Abby Cox (York, Pa./West York) finished the contest with five saves and picked up her sixth victory on the season.

The Golden Bears will have a few days rest until they return home to face Millersville University on Wednesday, April 12, at Keystone Field. The game is set to begin at 4 p.m.
