Nine Golden Bears Score as Women's Lacrosse Moves to 2-0 with 18-1 Win over Felician

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team defended its home-field with a convincing win over Felician University, 18-1, inside of Andre Reed Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
 
The Golden Bears scored seven goals in the first 14 minutes of the game and quite simply never looked back, as they only surrendered a late score in the waning minutes of the contest to improve their record to 2-0 early on in the season.
 
Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) led Kutztown with a career-high six points on a career-best five assists.
 
Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) was once again the top scorer for the Golden Bears as she finished with a game-high four goals, to go along with three groundballs and two caused turnovers.
 
Close behind Bowman were Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) and Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic), who notched three goals apiece. Carlucci tied her career-high in goals and added an assist for a career-best four points, while Smith recorded a game and career-high five draw controls and went 2-for-2 on free position shots.
 
Emily Leeb (East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow) and Lauren Schmidt (Hanover, Pa./South Western) each netted two goals for the Maroon and Gold as well. Leeb also finished with three draw controls, while Schmidt caused two turnovers.
 
Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling), Carley Vegso (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown), and Destanee Watkins (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) rounded out Kutztown's goal-scorers. O'Neil finished with a game-high seven ground balls and four caused turnovers, while the goal for Vegso was the first of her collegiate career.
 
KU outshot Felician 37-1, while also holding commanding edges in draw controls (19-2) and ground balls (26-16). The Maroon and Gold were also a perfect 7-for-7 in clear attempts.  
 
The Golden Bears hit the road for their next contest, travelling south to South Carolina to face Savannah College of Art and Design on Thursday, March 16 at 11 a.m. in Hilton Head.
