Lacrosse Topples SCAD-Savannah in Hilton Head, 17-9

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) had five goals and two assists for a career-high seven points to lead the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team to a 17-9 win Thursday afternoon over SCAD-Savannah in Hilton Head, South Carolina.
 
The Golden Bears (3-0) scored the first five goals and never looked back. The lead grew to 10-2 at halftime and was extended to as many as 10 (15-5) with 10:05 to play in the game.
 
Huggins tied her career-high with five goals and broke her previous career-high of six points, set against Bloomsburg last season. Her two assists move her into fourth in school history with 31 career assists.
 
Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) played in her first game of the year, scoring three goals and dishing out a career-high four assists for a career-high seven points. Her four assists are tied for the third-most in a game in school history and are the most for a Golden Bear since 2010.
 
The seven-point afternoon moves Gabriele into seventh in school history with 112 in her career. She also moved into sixth in scoring with 85 – her 17th career hat-trick – and fifth all-time in assists.
 
Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) netted a hat-trick with three goals and an assist Thursday. She has scored 3+ goals in all three games this season and leads the team with 12 as a sophomore.
 
Madison Carlucci (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) scored a career-high-tying three goals for the third time of her career – all in the second half.
 
Lauren Schmidt (Hanover, Pa./South Western), Carley Vegso (Newtown Square, Pa./Marple Newtown) and Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) also scored for the Golden Bears.
 
Abby Cox (York, Pa./West York) moved to 3-0 in the cage with 12 saves Thursday.
 
Kutztown returns north and takes on Holy Family University on the road on Saturday, March 18, at 12 p.m.
