Bowman, Gabriele Shine in 16-4 Victory over Holy Family

CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team kept its unblemished regular season intact with its fourth consecutive win after defeating Holy Family University, 16-4, on Saturday morning at The Proving Grounds in Conshohocken.

It is the second consecutive year that the Golden Bears have started their season 4-0.

Makayla Bowman (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn) had an outstanding performance, notching a career-high in goals with six. She was one shy of tying the school record.

Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic) was not far behind Bowman with five goals of her own, which tied her career-high. She also came away with six groundballs.

Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) was third on the team in scoring as she notched three of her own along with three draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Emily Smith (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Hubert Catholic) dished out one of the two assists by the Golden Bears, but most notably, broke the school-record for draw controls in a game with 11 on Saturday.

The game started out as a back-and-forth affair with Kutztown holding a slim 3-2 advantage with 19:03 left in the first half.

The Golden Bears would then go on an offensive surge, scoring five goals in succession still in the first half.

Although Holy Family kept the score within striking distance (8-4) with 6:36 left in the game, Kutztown put away any hopes of a comeback by scoring seven goals in a row to end the game 16-4.

Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) led the defense in the strong performance with a game-high seven groundballs along with two caused turnovers.

Abby Cox (York, Pa./West York) got the nod between the pipes and finished with six saves.

The Golden Bears will get their first action of Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play in a few days when they host Shippensburg University on Tuesday, March 21, at 4 p.m.
