WILSON, N.C. – The Kutztown University baseball team took on California University (PA) Sunday night at Fleming Stadium in North Carolina, falling 14-4 in a non-conference matchup in the team's fourth game of the season.
Kutztown (7-5) fell behind early, and an 11-run fourth inning set the tone for the rest of the night. KU walked eight batters and the Vulcans scored 14 runs on 15 hits.
The Golden Bears scored all four of their runs in the final three innings.
Dariel Richardson (Reading, Pa./Reading) drove in a two-run double in the seventh, and went on to score on a two-out, pinch-hit single by freshman
Mitch Pinder (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area).
Zack Delp (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) capped the scoring Sunday night with a ninth-inning, leadoff homer, his second of the year.
Kevin Sell (Mertztown, Pa./Brandywine Heights) and
David Brown (Hatboro, Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) highlighted the team's five pitchers with scoreless innings of relief.
California (PA)'s Neil Dudley picked up the win. He threw 6.1 innings and struck out seven batters with no walks.
Kutztown returns to action on Monday, March 13 to take on Clarion University at 3:30 p.m.
