Golden Bears Return to Win Column with 9-1 Win on Monday

WILSON, N.C. – Josh Houser (New Freedom, Pa./Susquehannock (Harford C.C.)) threw eight strikeouts in seven innings of one-run ball, while an eight-run seventh inning led the Kutztown University baseball team to a 9-1 victory over Clarion University on Monday afternoon at Fleming Stadium.
 
Clarion scored a run on three straight singles in the top of the first inning. From there, Houser retired nine-in-a-row and let up just two hits over his last six innings.
 
In the eight-run seventh inning for Kutztown, Bo Rottet (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) tied the game with a one-out triple and scored on a wild pitch.
 
Dariel Richardson (Reading, Pa./Reading) and Derian Sarlat (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) both hit a two-run singles in the inning. Daulton Fidler (Reading, Pa./Muhlenberg) added an RBI hit, and in his second at-bat of the inning, Rottet capped KU's scoring with a two-run double.
 
Rottet went 3-for-5 Monday.
 
Gavilan Fogarty-Harnish (Ephrata, Pa./Ephrata) threw the last two innings of scoreless relief for KU.
 
Kutztown takes Tuesday off and returns to action for its final games of spring break on Wednesday, March 15, at Barton College for a 1 p.m. doubleheader.
