KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The No. 9 Kutztown University men's basketball team will be traveling this weekend to face off against Cheyney University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) showdown on Saturday, Feb. 11 inside of Alfred Cope Hall.
Fans, please note that tipoff for this contest will be at 1 p.m. despite the normal 3 p.m. start for the men. The women's game will be played following the men's.
Fresh off of an overtime victory against Mansfield on Wednesday, Feb. 8, KU (19-2, 15-2 PSAC) will be playing on the road against the Wolves in the hopes of extending its win streak to 12 games – its longest since the 2009-10 team started the season 14-0.
A victory over Cheyney would give Kutztown back-to-back 20-win seasons for just the third time in school history (2007-08 and 2008-09 and 2008-09 and 2009-10).
A win would also give KU its 10th road victory, its most since the 2008-09 and 2009-10 seasons, as well as its 16th PSAC victory, its second most in program history trailing only last season's 18.
Earlier on in the season, Kutztown hosted Cheyney and came away with its seventh straight victory over the Wovles, 98-66. The Maroon and Gold boasted two 20-point scorers in the contest in
Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) (22) and
Dan Cuevas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) (21).
Lee is leading the charge offensively this season, followed closely by
Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown), as the two are ranked 14th and 15th in the PSAC, respectively, at 15.6 and 15.3 points per game. Right behind them in 18th and 19th is
Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) (14.7) and Cuevas (14.6).
Ridgeway has also been the team's facilitator with his PSAC-leading 8.3 assists per game, which is good for third in all of Division II. On Wednesday, he set the program's single-season assist record with his 171st assist of the season.
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area), who is leading the team with 55 made 3-pointers, rounds out the starters with 12.3 points per game.
Most recently, Cheyney suffered a close defeat to West Chester, 87-80, inside of its own Alfred Cope Hall. The Wolves have shown they are scrappy when defending their home court.
Cheyney (2-21, 2-16) is led by junior guard Rafiq Marshall, who is averaging 14.0 points and 3.9 assists per game
Amir Boney, third on the team in scoring (7.6), is the team's leading rebounder at 3.1 per game.
