Video Replay

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University men's basketball team set multiple program records in opening the 2017-18 regular season on a high note, taking down Penn State Schuylkill 135-80 Saturday evening at Keystone Arena in a nonconference matchup.

The Golden Bears (1-0 overall) set program records for points in a game (135), assists (40), 3-pointers made (17) and field goal percentage (68.0%)

Senior Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) and redshirt-junior Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) both set individual program records in a game. Ridgeway broke his mark for assists in a game from last year with 16 Saturday, and Lee tied a school record with eight 3-pointers made.

Kutztown never showed any rust from the offseason and it picked up just where it left off from its 26-win campaign of a season ago.

The final result was never in doubt from the opening minutes, as KU jumped out to a double-digit lead within the first ten minutes.

Lee's game-high 34 points is a new career high. He shot 12-of-13 from the field, including 8-of-9 from three-point range.

Juniors Ricky Hicks (Coatesville, Pa./Polytech) and David Johnson (Dunellen, N.J./Dunellen), and sophomore Josh Townsend (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) all broke their own previous records for points in a game. Hicks and Johnson both finished with 12 points and Townsend had eight.

Junior Dan Cuevas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) tallied 19 points and four rebounds.

Redshirt-freshman Moe Williams (Townsend, Del./Life Center Academy) burst onto the scene in his first collegiate game. He tallied 13 points and eight rebounds in his first action.

All 11 KU players that saw the court recorded points, including senior Rafiq Marshall (Philadelphia, Pa./Simon Gratz (Cheyney)), who finished in double-figures with 10. Senior captain Demetrius Bennett (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh (Neumann)) had seven points, three rebounds and three assists.

Sophomore Oenis Medina (Reading, Pa./Reading (Shippensburg)) and freshmen Kiyon Hardy (Philadelphia, Pa./The Shipley School) and Joseph O'Brien (Abington, Pa./Abington) rounded out the Golden Bears who found their names in the score column. Townsend ended with eight points and Hardy and Medina both contributed six.

Kutztown is back at Keystone Arena Wednesday, Nov. 15 for another nonconference game against the University of the Sciences. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
