HACKENSACK, N.J. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team took on Division I Fairleigh Dickinson University in an exhibition Thursday night.
Sierra Taylor (Williamstown, N.J./Camden Catholic) led all scorers with 16 points as the Golden Bears fell 77-63 at Stratis Arena.
Outside of a 10-point difference in the third quarter, Kutztown played within four points of FDU through the other three quarters, highlighted by a +2 margin in the fourth. At halftime, KU was in a six-point ballgame against the Division I Knights.
Taylor dropped 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting. She made two 3-pointers and dished out two assists.
Freshman
Rylee Derr (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) earned the start and posted 13 points and seven rebounds. She shot 3-for-8 from downtown, made all four of her free throws and had three assists.
As a team, Kutztown shot 18-of-19 from the free throw line, as
Taylor Thames (Colmar, Pa./North Penn),
Jenna Widdicombe (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II (West Chester)), Taylor, Derr and
Zoe Zerman (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) all shot perfect from the line.
Thames rounded out KU's three double-digit scorers with 12 points on 4-of-7 shooting.
FDU was led by a double-double from Amina Markovic of 12 points and 15 rebounds. Paniel M'Bikata added 13 points for the Knights.
The Golden Bears' next exhibition is set for Friday, Nov. 3, with a road trip to U. Mass at 4:30 p.m.
