KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The fourth-ranked Kutztown University women's soccer team will honor the two members of its senior class prior to the match against Seton Hill University at Keystone Field on Saturday, Oct. 21.
Over the past four seasons, the duo of
Morgan Staley (Landenberg, Pa./Kennett) and
Hannah Oren (Wind Gap, Pa./Nazareth Area) has been a part of four straight double-digit win seasons, totaling 59 victories thus far. Their teams have qualified for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament every year, they made the NCAA Tournament twice, and last year helped guide the program to the NCAA Final Four and set a program record in wins in a season with 20.
Staley is a four-year member of the Golden Bears and is a two-year team captain. She has started in 57 of 62 career games played in the center of the defense and was an NSCAA All-Atlantic Region Third Team honoree in 2015.
Staley is a member of a defense that has recorded nine shutouts so far this season, which is good for fifth in program history. She has two goals and seven assists in her career.
In the classroom, Staley is a four-time Dean's List Honoree, a three-time P-S-A-C Scholar-Athlete, and a two-time Division 2 ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. She will graduate in May with a degree in biochemistry.
Oren is a team-captain and a four-year member of the Golden Bears.
Oren has played in 39 career games. Playing up top as a forward, she has tallied three career goals, two of which have come this season for a Kutztown offense that ranks first in the P-S-A-C in goals scored with 44, which is also good for fifth in program history.
Oren is a three-time member of the Dean's List, a three-time P-S-A-C Scholar-Athlete, and a two-time Division 2 ADA Academic Achievement Award winner. She will graduate in May with a degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.
The Golden Bears (13-2 overall, 11-2 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference) are looking to break a two-game skid as they have dropped their last two games to Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) and East Stroudsburg University, both by 1-0 scores.
KU still sits a top of the PSAC standings, tied with West Chester University (11-2-1, 11-2) with 33 points. It has clinched a PSAC tournament berth, and with a win on Saturday coupled with a loss by Slippery Rock University (9-4-2, 9-3-2) Saturday, would clinch a home-playoff game in the quarterfinal round.
Kutztown and Seton Hill both rank in the top-five in the conference in goals, assists, points and scoring margin. They are one-two in goals scored (44-38), points (119-105) and assists (31-29).
KU's offense is led by sophomore
Emily Zwiercan (Reinholds, Pa./Cocalico), who has a team-high 11 goals and six assists. Classmate
Maddie Mohr (Elizabethtown, Pa./Elizabethtown Area) is second on the team with 10 goals. Freshman
Randi Smith (Wayne, N.J./Wayne Valley) has tallied five goals and four assists so far this season.
Sophomore goalie
Jenna Bracken (Wanaque, N.J./Lakeland Regional) has started 10 games and holds an 8-2 record. She has recorded four shutouts and has 47 saves on the season, including a career-high 10 on Wednesday night against East Stroudsburg. Her .887 save percentage is tops in the conference.
The Golden Bears come in to their regular season home finale with a 7-1 mark at Keystone Field. The Griffins are 2-4-1 on the road, with all of their losses coming away from home.
Following Saturday, Kutztown hits the road for its final two matches of the regular season. The Golden Bears are at Bloomsburg University (8-4-2, 7-4-2) on Wednesday, Oct. 25 and at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, Oct. 28.
