MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Goalkeeper
Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) performed exceptional Saturday, making a career-high 19 saves to send the fourth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team to double-overtime at sixth-ranked Millersville University. On an untimed penalty corner in the 100th minute, Millersville got one past Hope to pull off the 1-0 win, KU's first loss of the season.
Scoreless through 70:00 of regulation and 29:00 of 7-on-7 overtime, Millersville was awarded a penalty corner just as the clock hit 0:00, giving it one untimed penalty corner attempt. Olivia Hershey scored off the corner to down the Golden Bears in dramatic fashion.
The Golden Bears (4-1) went toe-to-toe with the nationally-ranked Marauders (4-1), but they were outshot 26-8 – 20-1 on-goal – and still nearly posted a shutout and force penalty strokes.
Kutztown returns home on Tuesday, Sept. 20 to face nationally-ranked Shippensburg University at 7 p.m. The game will be telecast on KUTV. Check out
