Video of KU Goals

ERIE, Pa. – Madison Stewart (New Castle, Del./William Penn) has enjoyed her new role of lead attacker for the Kutztown University field hockey team. Fresh off its No. 4 national ranking, KU was down 2-1 in the second half, but Stewart stepped up to score the game-tying and game-winning goals to lead KU to a 3-2 victory on the road over Mercyhurst University on Wednesday afternoon.

Stewart's second and third goals of the season pushed Kutztown to a perfect 4-0 on the season – KU's first 4-0 start since 2011 (5-0).

The Golden Bears outshot the Lakers, 18-5, but just six shots were put on-goal for KU. Mercyhurst scored on 2-of-3 shots on-goal.

Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen) scored her second goal of the year off a corner to give KU a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute. Mercyhurst scored in the final two minutes of the first half and first two of the second half to take a 2-1 lead – Kutztown's first deficit of the season.

Stewart found the back of the cage in the 39th minute on an assist from Analyse Gaspich (Palmyra, Pa./Lower Dauphin) as the teams fought to a draw the remaining 20 minutes of the second half.

1:01 into overtime, Stewart connected on her first shot attempt for her second goal of the game and the game-winner for the Golden Bears.

Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) moved to 4-0 in goal.

Kutztown takes on its first nationally-ranked opponent of the season this Saturday, Sept. 17. KU travels to No. 6 Millersville University (3-1) for a 12 p.m. start.
