Baseball Drops Two in PSAC Twin Bill to No. 1 Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University baseball team dropped both games of its Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) doubleheader against the No. 1 team in Division II, Millersville University Friday at North Campus Field.  Millersville took game one, 4-0 and followed it with a 9-2 victory in game two.

KU's (19-29, 9-17 PSAC) Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin) (3-5, 3.70 ERA) threw a complete-game in the opener, going seven innings with four hits, two earned runs and four strikeouts.  He allowed the fifth-best hitting team in the nation to go just 4-for-23 (.174).

Millersville (41-4, 23-3 PSAC) jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning of the opening game after two unearned runs came around to score.  MU wouldn't look back, getting a complete-game from starter Brandon Miller (9-1) who went seven-innings of shutout baseball, allowing four hits and striking out eight to close out the victory.

Millersville started the second game jumping out to a 4-0 lead in the top of the first.  Kutztown responded with two runs in the bottom of the third off a two-run double by Mike Milazzo (Titusville, N.J./Notre Dame) to cut the lead in half.

The Marauders responded right away with three runs in the top of the fourth to push its lead back to 7-2.  Millersville added two more runs in the sixth and shutout KU over the final four innings to give it a 9-2 win.

With the opening game loss, Kutztown found itself eliminated from PSAC playoff contention.

The two teams head to MU's Cooper Field to finish the season-series on Saturday, April 30 at 1 p.m.

The Golden Bears then finish up their season with an exhibition game against Albright College at the Reading Phillies' FirstEnergy Stadium on Monday, May 2.  First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.
