Live Stats

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team returns home to Keystone Field on Tuesday, March 29, to compete against Philadelphia University at 4 p.m., opening up a three-game home-stand for the Golden Bears.

Kutztown is coming off a loss in its last game, a road Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup against No. 7 Mercyhurst University, 19-9, on Saturday. Courtney O'Neill (Stratford, N.J./Sterling) caused one turnover for 84 in her career, the most in program history.

Looking ahead, the Golden Bears (5-4, 1-4 PSAC) are aiming to get back in the win column. The Rams (2-4) are in the Central Atlantic College Conference (CACC) and have not yet entered their own conference play.  The Rams have faced other PSAC teams on the year. They won against Millersville University in overtime. Both the Rams and Golden Bears lost to West Chester University earlier this season.

The Kutztown defensive unit looks extremely strong in the 2016 season. The team is third in PSAC groundballs with an average of 22.78. They are also third in caused turnovers per game with 11.22. Lauren Huggins (Media, Pa./Penncrest) leads the team in caused turnovers with 32. Reilly Donovan (Bel Air, Md./Patterson Mill) leads in groundballs with 27.

The attacking side proves equally promising. Leading the PSAC with shots per game is Sarah Gabriele (Felton, Pa./York Catholic), who has scored 25 goals this season. Gabrielle leads the Golden Bears with 24 draw controls. Huggins has scored on 24 shots this season and contributed an impressive 13 assists, making her eighth for most assists in KU history with 22 in her career. 10 different players have scored goals for the Golden Bears this season.

The Kutztown cage is shared by Jen Bergey (Souderton, Pa./Souderton) and Abby Cox (York, Pa./West York). Both goalies have recorded more than 30 saves this season. Bergey has played 247:31 and has a save percentage of .449. Cox has played 293:04 and has a save percentage of .412.

Philadelphia University is led in goals by Liz Mower with 15, Isabella DiGnazio with eight and Elizabeth Seitzinger with seven. Mower also leads the team with 31 shots, 27 of them being on goal. The team has five players with more than 10 groundballs. All but two players have picked up a groundball this season. Dignazio leads the team with 13 caused turnovers.

The Philadelphia cage is covered by four different goalkeepers, who have all seen time this season. Maria Matteis and Corrinne Etter have played the most at 120 minutes each. The four goalies combine for 53 saves this season.

The Golden Bears have two home games this weekend.  First, KU plays Edinboro University Friday, April 1, at 2 p.m.  Kutztown then hosts Slippery Rock University the next day, April 2, at 2 p.m.  Saturday's game will be Senior Day for two Golden Bears.

Both games will continue PSAC play for both teams and will be held at Keystone Field.
