SALEM, Va. – The Kutztown University softball team picked up a 4-1 victory over Ohio Valley for its sixth-straight victory on Saturday at the Salem Invitational as it finished with a 3-0 record on the weekend.
Kutztown (14-7) started out on the right foot as it scored two runs in the first inning off of RBI singles courtesy of
Danielle Amato (Henderson, Nev./Coronado) and
Gabby Tareila (Limerick, Pa./Spring-Ford).
The second inning featured similar results as the Golden Bears picked up two more runs, this time off of a double from
Blayse Cholish (Peckville, Pa./Valley View), which brought in two runs.
The Maroon and Gold surrendered one run off of a fielder's choice in the second inning, but that would be the only run it would give up for the remainder of the contest.
Sophomore
Bridget Newman (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford) took the mound in the final game of the invitational and she impressed. She pitched a complete game with only one earned run and also struck out three batters.
Cholish was the main source of offense for Kutztown as she finished with two RBIs, a run scored and two hits.
Tareila also came away with two hits and drove in a run, which included a double in the third inning. Amato was the third Golden Bear to finish with an RBI in the game.
Asja Saito (Pickering, Ontario/Pickering) finished the contest 1-for-2 at the plate and scored a run.
Kutztown returns to action on Tuesday, March 15, at 2:30 p.m. as it takes on The University of the Sciences in a road doubleheader in Philadelphia.
