Baseball Falls to Mars Hill Twice on Sunday

MARS HILL, N.C. - The Kutztown University baseball team fell to Mars Hill by final scores of 11-3 and 2-1 in its non-conference doubleheader on Sunday afternoon at Henderson Field.

In game one, Mars Hill (6-1) got out to a 5-2 lead after the first three innings of play and led throughout the entirety of the contest. Senior Bobby Reddick (Lansdale, Pa./North Penn (Northampton C.C.)) started on the mound for Kutztown (0-4), but was pulled after three innings. The Lions scored their 11 runs behind 14 hits, including two from five different hitters.

Junior Zach Schram (Newtown, Pa./Council Rock North (Mercer County C.C.)) led the KU offense with two hits, including a RBI single in the third. Bo Rottet (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) and Mike White (Broomall, Pa./Marple Newtown) each were 1-for-3 with a RBI, while Joe DiWilliams (Lafayette Hill, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) and Derian Sarlat (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) recorded the final two hits for the Golden Bear offense.

In game two, junior Anthony Atticks (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Township (Harford C.C.)) got the start on the mound for Kutztown, throwing two scoreless innings before getting relieved by Mike Kammerer (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic).

Kutztown got on the board in the top of the second on an RBI single from outfielder Jeff Zebrowski (Chester Springs, Pa./Bishop Shanahan). Schram scored on the play giving KU a 1-0 lead.

Kammerer performed well in relief, throwing two scoreless innings before giving way to Pat Flynn (Pottstown, Pa./West-Mont Christian Academy).

Unfortunately for KU, Mars Hill scored two runs off of Flynn in the bottom of the fifth on a single by Rayshelon Carolina to take a 2-1 lead that it would not relinquish the rest of the game.

Each of KU's top-six hitters in the lineup had a hit in the game, but it couldn't plate any runners after the second inning of play.

The Golden Bears are back in action on Thursday, Feb. 26, at 6 p.m. as they take on Indiana University of Pennsylvania in the Builder Invitational held in Newport News, Va.
