PREVIEW: Win-and-In Playoff Scenario for Women's Basketball on Senior Night Wednesday

Live Stats Video

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – It might not have all went according to plan, but the main goal of the season can still be achieved for the Kutztown University women's basketball team during its regular-season finale and Senior Night against West Chester, Wednesday, Feb. 24 at 5:30 p.m. at Keystone Arena.

Win and you're in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference playoffs.

The Golden Bears (10-15, 7-14 PSAC) currently sit at seventh-place in the Eastern Division, just a game behind Lock Haven University (11-15, 8-14).  With LHU dropping its regular-season finale against East Stroudsburg 65-55 Saturday, Kutztown can leap-frog LHU in the standings with a victory on Wednesday, giving KU the sixth-spot and finale-playoff berth.

If it plays out, it will be the Golden Bears' seventh playoff berth over the past eight seasons.

Kutztown sits in its current spot after collecting an 84-75 road-win over Mansfield Saturday.  Four scorers finished the evening in double-digits, along with the team shooting a blistering 50 percent (10-of-20) on its 3-point attempts to seal the victory.  Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) led the way for the Golden Bears with a game-high 18 points on 6-of-12 shooting from beyond the arc.  Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) (17 points, 11 rebounds) and Gina Lewis (Atlantic City, N.J./Holy Spirit) (17, 10) both recorded double-doubles in the victory.  Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) chipped in 16 points and three assists, the 22nd game of the year she finished scoring in double-digits.

West Chester (19-6, 16-5) is coming of a 79-70 defeat at the hands of Millersville University this past Saturday.  The loss ended an 11-game winning streak for the Golden Rams, who find themselves locked in at the top-seed out of the East.

Kutztown enters the game with the fifth-rated offense in the PSAC, averaging 70 points per game.  West Chester allows an average of 64.5 points per game (ninth) while Kutztown allows 70 (15th).  The Golden Bears are one of the best three-point shooting teams in the PSAC, currently ranked fifth.

The Golden Bears have been led all season by the trio of Watson, Lee and Altomare.  Watson is the fourth-leading scoring in the league (16.6 points) and sixth-best rebounder (nine per game).  Lee averages 14.8 points, along with a team-high 5.1 assists per game.  Altomare rounds out the scoring from behind the arc, leading the PSAC in 3-pointers made this season with 80.  She is two-shy of breaking Kutztown's school-record for 3-pointers made in a single-season (81).  Altomare averages 13.8 points.

Watson leads the way on defense with 36 blocks.

West Chester is led on offense by the PSAC's sixth-rated scorer in Brittany Sicinski (16.4 points per game).  Dallas Ely (13.6), Kendall Benovy (11) and Anna Kuntz (10.4) all average double-digits in scoring for the top-rated scoring unit in the PSAC.  Kuntz leads the team in rebounding; averaging more than eight a game while Sicinski tops the team in assists (4.36).  Kuntz also has 36 blocks on the season.

West Chester won the last matchup between the two teams, picking up a 92-55 home victory earlier in the year on Jan. 27.  The Golden Rams are 5-1 against Kutztown over the past three years.
