INDIANA, Pa. – Freshman guard
Sierra Taylor (Williamstown, N.J./Camden Catholic) dropped a season-high 23 points, but the Kutztown University women's basketball team ran into a hot Indiana University (PA) program that downed the Golden Bears, 75-67, Sunday afternoon at IUP's Kovalchick Complex.
Taylor was 9-of-12 shooting from the field while adding five rebounds in 38 minutes of action. She was coming off a then-season-high 15 points Saturday at Pitt-Johnstown as she now increases her season scoring average to 11.0.
Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Philadelphia U.)) capped Kutztown's duo in double figures. She scored 17 points with a team-high nine rebounds.
Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) grabbed seven rebounds in 14 minutes.
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) extended her streak of consecutive games with a 3-pointer to 32, but was held to five shot attempts – her fewest since becoming a starter last season.
The Golden Bears fell behind 19-11 after the first quarter as their sub-par shooting percentage of 23.3 percent in the first half put it behind by eight at the break. KU picked up the tempo with 45 points on 52.8 percent shooting in the second half, but watched the Crimson Hawks match their 45 points on 58.3 percent shooting on their home floor.
Indiana (PA) had four players in double figures, led by Carolyn Appleby's 20 points.
Kutztown returns to Keystone Arena on Wednesday night, Dec. 7, for a 7 p.m. non-conference game vs. Bowie State.
