KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The Kutztown University women's basketball team hopes to pick up a few wins this weekend in PSAC crossover play as it travels to Pitt-Johnstown for a game on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1 p.m. and faces off with Indiana (PA) on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 1 p.m.
Kutztown (1-5, 0-2 PSAC East) recently competed in the Puerto Rico Clasico over the Thanksgiving holiday, dropping two tough games against St. Edward's, 74-70 (OT), and Washburn, 62-50.
Senior forward
Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton), fresh off scoring her 1,000th career point at KU, paced the team with 19 points and nine rebounds against St. Edwards.
Kalee Fuegel (Philadelphia, Pa./Saint Basil Academy) scored 12 points, while three other Golden Bears scored in double figures.
Watson led KU again in its setback against Washburn, posting 14 points and seven rebounds.
Alex Heck (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood (Philadelphia U.)) scored 13 and freshman
Sierra Taylor (Williamstown, N.J./Camden Catholic) contributed with 11 points and three assists.
Heck leads the team in scoring at 14.3 points per game, while also adding 5.7 rebounds a contest. Senior guard
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) and Watson are second and third on the team in scoring, respectively, with over 12 points a game.
Altomare paces KU with 13 3-pointers (seventh in PSAC) and has hit at least one 3-pointer in her last 30 games, dating back to last season. Watson also is averaging a team-best 9.0 rebounds (seventh in PSAC) and has a team-high eight blocks.
Taylor is fourth on KU in scoring at 8.3 points per contest and has a team-leading 21 assists. Fuegel has started in all six contests, averaging just under seven points a game in over 29 minutes per contest.
Pitt-Johnstown (4-1, 1-1 PSAC West) is coming into Saturday's matchup after picking up a 79-68 victory over Lincoln. Victoria Moreland paced the Mountain Cats with 22 points, while Jamie Tabon posted a huge double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds.
Moreland leads the Mountain Cats at 13.4 points per game, while Tabon is averaging a double-double with close to 12 points per contest and 10.2 rebounds a game (second in PSAC).
Indiana (PA) (3-2, 2-0) heads into Sunday's matchup with the Golden Bears on a three-game winning streak with wins over Lock Haven, Bloomsburg and Bowie State.
The Crimson Hawks are paced by Carolyn Appleby and Megan Smith, who are averaging 15.8 and 14.2 points per game, respectively. Smith also leads the team in rebounding and blocks. Lauren Wolosik has contributed with 9.8 points per game.
The Golden Bears return to Keystone Arena following their two-game road trip with a non-conference matchup against Bowie State on Wednesday, Dec. 7, at 7 p.m.
