KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The eighth-ranked Kutztown University men's basketball team heads off to Western Pa. this weekend for two Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchups as it plays at Pitt-Johnstown on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 3 p.m. and at No. 12 Indiana (PA) on Sunday, Dec. 4, at 3 p.m.
Kutztown (5-0, 2-0 PSAC East) is off to its best start since the 2009-10 season, when former KU standout Stephen Dennis led the Golden Bears to a 14-0 start and a 25-6 overall record.
KU heads into this weekend coming off a 70-67 comeback victory over Philadelphia University on Tuesday at Keystone Arena. It was the first time that the Golden Bears overcame a double-digit halftime deficit for a victory since 2009.
Junior guard
Ethan Ridgeway (West Chester, Pa./Bayard Rustin) led the way for KU, posting a career-high 22 points and nine assists in the win. He has increased his scoring in every game this season and has posted eight or more assists in four of KU's five games. Ridgeway leads the PSAC and ranks third in NCAA Division II with 7.8 assists per game.
Sophomore
Dan Cuevas (Stroudsburg, Pa./Stroudsburg) continued his strong start to the season with 12 points and seven rebounds, while
Josh Johnson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown) and
Ryan Connolly (Harleysville, Pa./Souderton Area) also scored in double-figures.
Connolly and Johnson lead the Golden Bears in scoring at 14.6 and 14.4 points per game, respectively. Johnson is shooting 55 percent from the floor, while Connolly leads the team with 15 3-pointers (sixth in PSAC).
Redshirt-sophomore
Anthony Lee (Willow Grove, Pa./Abington) is averaging 12.6 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and leads the PSAC in 3-point shooting at 61 percent. Senior point guard
Austin Beidelman (Schnecksville, Pa./Parkland) is averaging 8.4 points per contest and is second on KU with 17 assists.
Pitt-Johnstown (5-2, 1-1 PSAC West) is on a two-game winning streak and is coming off a 76-61 win over Alderson-Broaddus last Saturday. Jake Laravie led the way with 22 points, while A.J. Leahey and Dale Clancy each scored 16.
Leahey leads the Mountain Cats with 21.0 points per game (fourth in PSAC) and 19 3-pointers (fourth). Laravie and Isaac Vescovi have each contributed as well with 10.7 points per game.
Indiana (PA) has started off with a 7-0 record, including 2-0 in the PSAC West, including wins over Alderson-Broaddus and University of the Sciences last weekend.
Jacobo Diaz paces the Crimson Hawks with 17.0 points and 10.3 rebounds per game, while Anthony Glover and Blake Danielak are averaging 14.3 and 13.9 points per game, respectively. Dante Lombardi is fourth on the team with 12.0 points per game and leads the team with 38 assists.
KU stays on the road following its trip to Western Pa. with contests at Seton Hill on Saturday, Dec. 10, at 3 p.m. and Bowie State on Sunday, Dec. 18, at 3 p.m.
