WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Kutztown University's
Felicia Silveira (Hampton, N.J./Voorhees) scored in the second minute of Sunday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Final, but East Stroudsburg's Shea Neal answered with two goals and the game-winner as Kutztown fell 2-1 to the Warriors, who won their third straight PSAC Championship.
The Golden Bears (17-4) had their nine-game winning streak snapped with their first setback since a 1-0 loss to ESU on Oct. 5. KU will await their NCAA Tournament fate as it hopes for an at-large berth, to be announced on the NCAA Selection Show on Monday, Nov. 7 at 6 p.m. KU was ranked second in the Atlantic Region in last week's rankings as six teams will qualify for the NCAA Tournament.
Silveira gave Kutztown a 1-0 lead 1:41 into the game, her first goal of the season. Entering Sunday, KU had won 22 consecutive games when scoring first.
Neal – who also scored the game-winner in ESU's 1-0 victory over Kutztown in the 2014 PSAC Final – scored on a rebound in the 30th minute to tie the game at 1-1. It snapped a four-game shutout streak for KU, spanning 445:45.
Neal struck again in the 64th minute for the game-winner, earning her the PSAC Tournament MVP.
If granted a spot in the NCAA Tournament, action would begin on Friday, Nov. 11 with First Round play, followed by Second Round play on Sunday, Nov. 13.
