Women's Volleyball Falls at Slippery Rock

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team lost a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup with Slippery Rock (12-25, 17-25, 16-25) on Friday evening at Morrow Field House.
 
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) led all players with 21 digs, which was one shy of a trying a career-high for a three-set match.
 
Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) and Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) were also in double-digits, adding 12 and 10 digs, respectively. The duo also led KU with eight kills apiece.  
 
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City)'s team-high 20 assists put her just six shy of moving into second place in program history.
 
Slippery Rock (12-16, 4-10 PSAC) had four players in double-figures for kills, led by Brooke Bostwick's 13, and outhit Kutztown .299-.087. Leah Jones had a double-double of 10 kills and 12 digs.
 
Zoe Rivet had a match-high 30 assists and Shayla Ray led all players with four blocks.
 
After splitting the first six points of the opening set, Slippery Rock scored four in a row to take control. KU got as close as 7-9, but the Rock responded with the next four points to complete at 10-4 run and would not look back.
 
Kutztown erased an early 3-7 second-set deficit with five straight points – which included kills from Conti and Moyer - to go on top 8-7. Once again SRU made a move, taking a 12-9 advantage with five of the following six points. The Golden Bears got as close as two on four separate occasions, including when a Wakelee kill made it 13-15, but could never pull closer as the Rock took the two-set lead.

Slippery Rock then took the first eight points of the third set to pull away for the sweep.
 
Kutztown (5-20, 2-12) continues its season-ending five-match road trip tomorrow, Nov. 5, at Edinboro at 1 p.m.
