Volleyball Wraps Up Western Road Trip Saturday at Edinboro

EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 defeat on the road in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) crossover contest on Saturday against Edinboro University (13-25, 19-25, 21-25) at McComb Fieldhouse.
 
The Golden Bears started the match with a rough first set, where they dropped a 25-13 decision. In the second half, Kutztown came out much stronger and put up a fight with Edinboro, but unfortunately dropped a 25-19 decision and found themselves down 2-0.
 
Kutztown's third set proved to be its best, but was unable to keep the match going with a third-set victory.
 
The Golden Bears were paced by Brittney Moyer (Orwigsburg, Pa./Blue Mountain (Lock Haven)) and Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East), who had six and five kills, respectively.
 
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) had a solid defensive outing with 20 digs. Brake also contributed two aces.
 
Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic) had a match-high four blocks, while Taylor Brown (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern) and Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) each had two blocks apiece.
 
Freshman Amanda Meck (Fleetwood, Pa./Fleetwood Area) found herself in the mix as she notched her season--high with five assists.
 
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) dished out seven assists in the contest, putting her career total at 3,187. With this performance, Conti is now in sole possession of the second spot in career assists, passing former Kutztown great Yvonne Shimp.
 
As a team, Kutztown was able to edge out an advantage in digs with a total of 44 compared to Edinboro's 40. Kutztown also held an advantage in blocks, 7-5.
 
Edinboro was paced by Victoria Severo (10 kills), Latoya Hutchinson (9) and Megan Screptock (7). The facilitator of the Fighting Scot offense was Sydney Trathen, who finished the match with 35 assists.
 
The Golden Bears will remain on the road as they face East Stroudsburg University on Tuesday, Nov. 8, in more PSAC action. The match is set to begin at 7 p.m.
