Right Place, Right Time: Tiwold Nets Two Needed Second-Half Goals in 2-0 Field Hockey Victory

Video Highlights

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) picked a good time to make her biggest mark of the season. Scoreless through more than 50 minutes of action, Tiwold scored twice within four minutes in the second half to send the eighth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team to a 2-0 victory over Limestone College on a chilly Thursday night at Andre Reed Stadium.

Legitimate scoring chances were scarce Thursday night, putting additional pressure on the Golden Bears to find a way a score and break their two-game skid.

In the 57th minute, Courtney Konowal (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) dribbled into the middle of circle and had her initial shot deflected in by Tiwold to give KU the 1-0 lead with less than 15:00 to play. It snapped a scoreless streak of 183:13 for KU – spanning over three games.

Just more than three minutes later, Tiwold struck again in front of the cage. Konowal had her initial shot saved by the Limestone keeper, but Tiwold was there to clean it up and give Kutztown its insurance goal in the 60th minute.

The multi-goal game doubled Tiwold's yearly output entering Thursday and marked the first two-score game of her career.

Defensively, the back line of Morgan Aldinger (Pennsburg, Pa./Upper Perkiomen), Jessica Strohecker (Landisburg, Pa./West Perry) and Mackenzie Fuhrman (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Township) teamed with starting goalkeeper Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) on the team's fifth shutout of the season. True freshman Hadley Wiktor (Danville, Pa./Danville Area) saw increased playing time on the back line and greatly contributed to the defense's success Thursday night.

Kutztown looks to build some momentum this weekend, when it hosts Mansfield University on Saturday, Oct. 15, for Senior Day beginning at 1 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
