Lee and the Golden Bears Back in Win Column Wednesday Night

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team took its first step in building a winning streak with a 72-60 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division victory over Mansfield University Wednesday night from Keystone Arena.
 
The Golden Bears (8-9, 5-8 PSAC) led for more than 70 percent of the game (28:28) and built a game-high lead of 12 points early in the second half. The Mountaineers (3-13, 1-12) mounted a late 7-0 in the final four minutes to cut the game to one possession at 62-59 with 1:54 to play.
 
In the final 2:00 though, Kutztown made 8-of-10 free throws to take control of the final minutes for the victory, its seventh straight over Mansfield.
 
Senior guard Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) led the Golden Bears with a game-high 19 points, including three 3-pointers. She led the way as a point guard with a career-high nine assists to go along with seven rebounds. She played all 40 minutes for the second straight game.
 
Junior forward Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) had another double-double with a line of 13 points, 10 rebounds and six assists. Watson also had a game-high of three blocks for the second straight game.
 
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) finished with 13 points with five assists in her 37 minutes of action. Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) also contributed with seven rebounds off the bench.
 
The Mountaineers were led by Katie Fitzpatrick and Brielle Kelly. Fitzpatrick recorded 18 points, seven rebounds and five assists. Kelly also recorded five assists and seven rebounds with 16 points.
 
Kutztown held a +8 advantage in assists with 22 assists on 23 field goals. Kutztown also forced 22 turnovers out of Mansfield.
 
Next up for Kutztown is on the road to another PSAC game at Cheyney University. The game will be played Saturday, Jan. 23 at 1 p.m., but stayed tuned to www.KUBears.com for potential schedule changes due to forecasted snow this weekend.
