Mike Kammerer (Allentown, Pa./Allentown Central Catholic) was happy to participate in this week's ACBL All-Star Game in Quakertown because he couldn't pitch in last year's event.
Â
"A couple of days before the All-Star game last year, I hurt my shoulder and couldn't throw," he said. "So I did a lot of rehab to get back and I'm doing well this year. I'm really happy to be part of a good team with a good coaching staff with the Railers."
Â
Last Sunday, Kammerer had a perfect game through 5 2/3 innings against the Jersey Pilots.
Â
"I gave up a 2-2 single to center that broke it up," Kammerer said. "I ended up with a one-hitter over 6 1/3 innings and all in all, it was a very good outing and I helped my team get another win."
Â
The Railers have been winning a lot and Kammerer, a Central Catholic graduate who is entering his junior year at Kutztown, has played a role. His shoulder injury caused him to redshirt this spring with the Golden Bears, but he looks to be back in his 2014 form.
Â
With the Railers, his 0.66 ERA is second in the ACBL behind only his Allentown and Kutztown teammate
Matt Swarmer (Mohnton, Pa./Governor Mifflin). He has 28 strikeouts in 27 1/3 innings.
Â
Kammerer tossed a scoreless inning in the All-Star game, which ended in a 2-2 tie.
Â
"We brought Mike back slowly because he didn't pitch at Kutztown this year," Allentown manager Dylan Dando. "We had the reins on him for a while even though he was chomping at the bit to get out there. He's doing a fantastic job for us and it's great to see him bounce back because he had been through a lot in the last year."
