Behm’s Goal Leads KU to Victory Over #6 East Stroudsburg

EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Kutztown University field hockey team held off the sixth-ranked East Stroudsburg University Warriors on Saturday by a final score of 1-0 in a rainy game held at Whitenight Field.
 
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) scored the lone goal of the game in the 32nd minute of the first half on an assist from Madison Wampler (York, Pa./West York Area). Behm's goal was her seventh of the season and the 41st of her career. Wampler now has two assists on the season after recording one in Kutztown's previous game against Limestone. 
 
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) played a brilliant game in goal for Kutztown, recording a shutout with a season-high 11 saves. She now has 23 saves in four games this season, and has allowed just four goals. The shutout was her first of the season and the third of her career.
 
Kutztown (3-1) was outshot by East Stroudsburg (3-1) by a 17-5 margin; while also ESU held the advantage in corners, 11-4. KU made its shots count, as they had five total shots and four of them were on goal. Behm recorded two shots on goal, while Courtney Ueberroth (Stevens, Pa./Cocalico) and Julia Snyder (Red Lion, Pa./Dallastown Area) each had one.
 
Emily Howell and Marisa Miro each had three shots on goal for the Warriors, while Sydney McCarthy and Desiraye Mack each recorded two. Danielle Ard kept the Warriors in the game, by compiling three saves and limiting the Golden Bears to its lone goal of the game.
 
Kutztown earned its second consecutive victory over East Stroudsburg after previously defeating them in the last game of the 2014 season by a score of 3-2. In each of the last two victories over ESU, the Golden Bears entered unranked and the Warriors held a spot in the top 10. The Warriors were ranked 7th going into the season finale in 2014 and were ranked 6th entering today's contest.
 
The Golden Bears next contest will be against West Chester on Tuesday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m. from Andre Reed Stadium.
