Photo GalleryKUTZTOWN, Pa. – The sixth-ranked Kutztown University field hockey team played with consistent offensive pressure on Tuesday night against No. 1 West Chester, but was unable to capitalize, dropping a 1-0 decision at Andre Reed Stadium.
Kutztown (3-2) kept pace with West Chester (5-0), as the Golden Bears held a 10-8 advantage in penalty corners while the Golden Rams held a slight 16-13 edge in shots.
The game's lone goal came in the 18th minute when WCU's Rachal Toppi snuck one into the right side of the cage moving from her left to right.
Perhaps the most impactful play of the game came late in the first half when KU let loose a barrage of shots toward the West Chester goal. Senior forward
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown)'s shot attempt looked destined for the back of the cage before WCU's Kristina Scherrer lunged at the ball and scooped it away just inches before it crossed the goal line.
Senior goalkeeper
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) made a handful of outstanding saves for the Golden Bears and totaled eight stops on the night. Behm finished with eight shots (six on goal).
The Maroon and Gold return to the field Friday, Sept. 18 to square off with IUP at 5 p.m. at Andre Reed Stadium.
KU students are encouraged to attend as part of Fall Sports Fest. The first 200 students will receive a free t-shirt
sponsored by KUSSI and reduced prices on concessions (with valid KU ID). Students can also enter to win a $25 Ozgood's gift certificate and a Pepsi Prize Pack valued at $500.
