HTML Box Score KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's lacrosse team hosted its last game of the season on Keystone Field Wednesday afternoon, but were defeated by the second-ranked team in the nation, Lock Haven University, 16-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.
The PSAC-leading Lady Eagles (15-0, 11-0 PSAC) took control of the game early by rushing out to a 10-0 lead. Kutztown (1-14, 0-11) got on the board with six minutes left in the first half, behind an unassisted goal from
Lauren Huggins.
Devan Davis scored on a free-position attempt in the second half for KU. Lock Haven closed out the scoring with three straight for a 16-2 final.
Courtney O'Neill had another strong showing defensively, leading the Golden Bears in groundballs (5) and caused turnovers (5). O'Neill currently ranks second in the PSAC in groundballs per game (3.73) and caused turnovers per game (2.20) Senior
Kelsey Halligan tied her season-high with four groundballs, while executing multiple clears out of the defensive zone.
Goalkeeper
Jen Bergey made six stops in net for KU, and LHU's Chrissy Baffuto made four saves in the win.
Lock Haven filtered in its attack from both corners, as Jill Murray and Shannon Bissnette connected with goal-scorers cutting through the middle for three assists a piece. Rachel Ward netted four goals on four shots, while a quartet of Lady Eagles recorded two-goal games.
LHU finished with a large advantage in shots, 27-8, and draw controls, 15-5.
Kutztown heads to Gannon University this Saturday, April 25 for the regular-season finale, slated to start at 10 a.m.
