Spencer Surpasses Milestone in Final Moments of Season Finale

HTML Box Score

ERIE, Pa. – With less than eight minutes remaining in her career, Jillian Spencer notched her fourth goal of the game and the 100th of her career in the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team's season-finale at Gannon University on Saturday morning. KU outscored Gannon in the second half, but fell 16-11 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) action.

Less than eight minutes remained in the careers of three Golden Bear seniors. Spencer was off to a strong game with her fifth hat-trick of the season, but she and her teammates knew she was one shy of the career milestone that so few have achieved at KU. Awarded a free-position shot with 7:36 to go, Spencer lined up the shot and drove it home for the century mark.

Head coach Kate Scattergood called timeout following the goal not only to rally and organize her Golden Bear team that was in the midst of a comeback and trailed 14-9, but to allow Spencer to celebrate with her teammates and save the game ball.

Spencer is the fifth Golden Bear in program history to score 100 career goals, and will graduate fifth on the all-time scoring list at 100. She also ranks second in career draw controls (95), sixth in points (124), sixth in ground balls (115), seventh in assists (24), eighth in games played (59) and third in games started (58). She was second on the team this year with 28 goals, and has been one of Kutztown's top two scorers for the last three seasons.

Freshman Sarah Gabriele notched her fifth hat-trick of the season with three goals in her impressive freshman finale. She led Kutztown in scoring this year with 33 goals, eighth in KU single-season history. It marks the second-most goals by a freshman all-time at KU behind Rachel Mehaffey's 41 in 2009.

Senior Taylor Stone scored two goals on Saturday to finish with 50 in her career. Stone saved her best season for last in the Maroon and Gold. She surpassed her previous-best by nine to score a career-high 24 goals with seven assists in 2015. She closes her career ranked 10th with 62 points, 11th with 50 goals and 57 games played, and eighth with 50 career starts.

Kelsey Halligan was Kutztown's final senior to close her career on Saturday. She scored her first career goal earlier this year and played in 54 career games, 12th in program history.

Madison Carlucci and Lauren Huggins each led the team with six ground balls, as Stone and Halligan each had five against Gannon. Sophomore Courtney O'Neill scooped up three, bringing her team-leading total to 59 this season. It ranks second-most in KU single-season history, and after her 58 last year, O'Neill enters her junior season in 2016 ranked sixth in KU history with 117 career ground balls. She also had one caused turnover for 34 this season, second in single-season history, bringing her career total to 67 for third in career history.

Huggins had season-highs with six ground balls, six caused turnovers and three assists on Saturday.

Kutztown returns 13 players for next season, the 25th season of women's lacrosse
