The Maroon and Gold honored three seniors before the game to commemorate their four-year contributions to the KU program. The Golden Bears honored as the 2015 senior class were
Taylor Stone,
Kelsey Halligan, and
Jillian Spencer.
In the first half, things were looking grim for Kutztown (1-13, 0-10 PSAC) as it found itself down by a score of 10-4 at the intermission break. The onset of the second half began to look similar as Slippery Rock's offense was still looking sharp, bringing the score to 14-4 with 19 minutes left to play. However, the Golden Bears began to fight back and brought the score within reach as they recorded six goals in a 10-minute span to bring the score to 16-10. Unfortunately, their late efforts were not enough to rally themselves to victory.
The offense for the Maroon and Gold was paced by freshman
Sarah Gabriele, who tallied four goals and an assist, while winning a season-high four draw controls. This is the third game of the season she has notched four goals in a game. Spencer and Stone were also forces for the offense as Spencer came away with two goals and an assist, while Stone dished a career-high three helpers and had a goal of her own.
Madison Carlucci,
Lauren Huggins,
Devan Davis, and
Cara Lord all had a goal apiece to round out the KU attack. The Slippery Rock (8-7, 6-4) regime was led by Jasey Sanders, who had four goals, and three players who all tallied three goals each.
Sophomore
Courtney O'Neill had a huge day on defense, matching her career-high and single-game school record of 10 groundball pickups. O'Neill also caused two turnovers, while Halligan led the team with three.
Kutztown goalie
Jen Bergey was able to come away with 14 saves, a season-best, between the pipes and also picked up a season-high six groundballs.
The Golden Bears will play their final home game of the season on Wednesday, April 22 against PSAC opponent Lock Haven University. The game is slated to kick-off at 4 p.m.
