Photo Gallery KUTZTOWN, Pa. – A three-run homer by visiting Millersville University in the first inning of the opener set the tone for the Kutztown University baseball team's Saturday afternoon at North Campus Field, as it dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division doubleheader to the Marauders by scores of 15-1 and 4-0.
Kutztown (16-17, 7-15 PSAC E) swiped a game from the PSAC East-leading Marauders (31-9, 18-6) on Friday, but Millersville responded strongly on Saturday with two convincing wins.
Millersville led off the day with two consecutive singles, followed by a three-RBI long shot from Dan Stoltzfus to immediately put the Golden Bears on their heels. Heading into the third inning, the Marauders had already compiled 10 earned runs off of nine hits, seemingly deflating KU.
The Golden Bears scored their lone run of the day in the sixth, starting with
Joe DiWilliams knocking a lead-off double down the left-field line.
Brady McNab advanced the runner to third, and
Daulton Fidler's single through the left side finalized the RBI.
Millersville scattered its five insurance runs throughout the final three innings in the one-sided victory, including a solo home run in the seventh.
McNab led the squad with a 2-for-3 performance at the plate, followed by DiWilliams and Fiddler rounding out KU's four total hits.
Dave King started on the mound for KU, followed by
Peter Masterson recording three strikeouts in 3.1 innings of two-hit ball.
Eric Moul closed out the final 16 batters.
The Maroon and Gold kept the nightcap a much closer contest, but were limited to just one hit by the Millersville defense. MU's Jim McDade struck out six batters in the complete-game effort.
Matthew Armour tallied KU's only hit in the nightcap, a leadoff single to center field in the bottom of the fifth inning.
Bobby Reddick and
Cameron Mathis split pitching duties in game two, with Reddick receiving the start and the loss.
Millersville finished the day with a 28-5 hit advantage over the Golden Bears.
The Golden Bears will make up their previously postponed doubleheader at Mansfield University tomorrow, Sunday, April 19 starting at 1 p.m.
