HTML Box Scores: Game 1 | Game 2

MANSFIELD, Pa. – Kutztown University senior pitcher Dominique Ficara opened Monday's softball doubleheader at Mansfield University with a two-hit shutout in a 2-0 KU victory. Mansfield responded on its home field with a 4-1 win in game two at Helen Lutes Field.

Ficara notched five strikeouts and no walks in her opening game dominance. She needed 75 pitches in seven innings to secure her third shutout of the season and 16th of her career.

Danielle Amato and Blayse Cholish each had RBI in the opener. Amato gave KU a 1-0 lead with a RBI in the third inning, marking her fourth game-winning hit in the last four days. Cholish and Rachel Lawes led the team with two hits apiece.

Amato also drove in a run in game two, but it came with KU down 3-0 in the sixth inning and marked Kutztown's only run of the game. Mansfield hit a bases-clearing double in the second inning off KU pitcher Savannah Nierintz for a 3-0 lead, and answered Amato's RBI with one of its own in the bottom half of the sixth inning.

Lawes went 3-for-3 in the nightcap to combine for 5-for-6 at the plate in the doubleheader. Asja Saito also had a multi-hit game two with a 2-for-3 performance.

Nierintz picked up the loss in six innings of work with six strikeouts and one walk. All four runs against her were earned.

The Golden Bears continue their stretch of 10 games in six days with a home doubleheader on Tuesday, April 14 at home against Shippensburg University. First pitch at North Campus Field is set for 2:30 p.m.
