Altomare's 16 Points Lead KU to Victory at Lock Haven, 71-58

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team got back to its winning ways on Wednesday night with a 71-58 win at Lock Haven in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup inside Thomas Fieldhouse.

Kutztown (6-3, 4-3 PSAC East) led wire-to-wire against the Bald Eagles, outscoring them in the first three quarters 55-40. KU used a 20-13 advantage in the opening quarter to give itself a lead that it would not relinquish the rest of the way.

The Golden Bears used a low-scoring second quarter, 14-10, to widen the lead to 11 at half (34-23). The third quarter was much of the same with Kutztown outpacing Lock Haven 21-17 en route to a 15-point lead heading into the fourth quarter of play.

Lock Haven fought hard in the fourth with an 18-16 advantage over KU, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Bears managed to hold on for the road victory.

KU was paced by junior guard Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area)'s game-high 16 points in the win. She was an efficient 6-of-10 from the field and 4-of-6 from the three-point line. It was Altomare's eighth double-digit scoring effort in nine games and her sixth game with 15 or more points this season.

Altomare has been unstoppable from behind the arc through the first nine games of the season for the Golden Bears. She has recorded two or more threes in every game this season and four or more on five occasions. Altomare has proved to be one of the best three-point shooters in the PSAC this season in her first year as a starter.

Junior Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) recorded 13 points, five rebounds and three assists for KU. She has scored in double-digits in all nine games thus far.

Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) recorded 14 points and five assists in a game-high 39 minutes played. She currently sits at 995 career points, five shy of becoming the 15th player in school history to reach the 1,000-point milestone. Lee is likely to eclipse the impressive milestone on Saturday.

Junior Gina Lewis (Atlantic City, N.J./Holy Spirit) contributed to the win with 11 points and four rebounds. Keifonna Ferguson (Norristown, Pa./Norristown Area) recorded six points and tied her career-high with eight rebounds, while freshman Allison Girardi (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata) chipped in with four assists.

Kutztown's defense played a major role in the victory, holding Lock Haven to 39 percent shooting from the field and nine percent from behind the three-point line (1-11). KU had 17 assists compared to 11 for the Bald Eagles. The Golden Bears also won the turnover battle, committing just 10, while Lock Haven had 18.

Lock Haven (4-6, 2-5) was led by Lysa Mealing's 10 points and game-high 15 rebounds. Mackenzie Livingston scored a team-high 14 points, while Rachael McDaniel chipped in with 10.

The Golden Bears return to action on Saturday, Dec. 19 at 1 p.m., in a road matchup at Shippensburg as Lee aims to join the 1,000-point club at KU.
