Women's Basketball Suffers Setback at Millersville, 68-54

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team dropped a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Millersville on Tuesday night, 68-54, inside Pucillo Gymnasium.
 
Kutztown (4-2, 2-2 PSAC) and Millersville (3-3, 1-3) battled back and forth in a closely contested first half. Millersville led 19-17 after the first quarter and 36-35 at the half. The Marauders used a huge 10-0 spurt starting in the middle of the first quarter to give themselves a 19-13 lead, a lead they would not relinquish the rest of the way.
 
Millersville started out the second half on a 12-4 run that pushed the lead to 49-38 and had a 12-3 spurt to end the game. Kutztown only scored three points in the final 4:36 of the fourth quarter and was outscored by Millersville 14-7 in the final frame.
 
Junior forward Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) played well, recording team-highs of 15 points and six rebounds to go along with two steals and a career-high four blocks. It was Watson's sixth consecutive double-digit scoring game to begin the season. She has also posted five or more rebounds in five of the first six games.
 
Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) scored all of her 13 points in the first half. She was 3-of-6 from behind the arc and 2-of-3 from the line. Altomare has recorded double-digit points in five of six games and has two or more threes in every game. She currently leads the PSAC in three-pointers made per game.
 
Junior Gina Lewis (Atlantic City, N.J./Holy Spirit) scored a career-high 12 points (5-8 FG) and grabbed five rebounds. Natalya Lee (Feasterville, Pa./Rancocas Valley Regional) scored eight points and freshman Allison Girardi (Somerset, N.J./Immaculata) dished out four assists and had two steals. Lee's eight points snapped her streak of nine consecutive double-digit scoring games dating back to last season.
 
Millersville held a 51-28 advantage in rebounding, including pulling down 21 on the offensive end. The Marauders also had 10 fastbreak points, compared to none for the Golden Bears.
 
Kutztown was outscored 17-8 by Millersville in second chance points and only converted four points off turnovers, while the Marauders had 10.
 
Millersville was led by Shelby Reimer, who had 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting. Celeste Robinson recorded 16 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and three steals. Aunjel Van Brakle had 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Yasmin Cooper recorded 11 points and a game-high 14 rebounds.
 
The Golden Bears return home this weekend for two PSAC matchups at Keystone Arena. Kutztown takes on Pitt-Johnstown on Friday, Dec. 4 at 5:30 p.m. and Indiana (Pa.) on Saturday, Dec. 5 at 2:00 p.m.
