Women’s Volleyball Falls 3-1 in Tightly-Contested Senior Day Match to Millersville

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team held a lead in every set on Saturday, however the Golden Bears fell to Millersville University, 3-1, on Senior Day in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match held inside Keystone Arena.
 
Kutztown (8-26, 5-17 PSAC) did not lose a single set by more than three points. Set scores for KU were 24-26, 23-25, 25-8 and 22-25.
 
Senior Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) hit .462, and recorded a team-high 13 kills and a match-best eight total blocks.
 
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley) recorded a career-high five service aces and finished with 17 digs.
 
Shannon Restrepo (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) wrapped up her freshman campaign with another all-around performance. She recorded seven kills, 11 assists, eight digs and two blocks.
 
Millersville (18-15, 8-14) showed excellent resolve in the match and stayed focused when trailing late in sets.
 
Erin Harman led the Marauders with 17 kills and five service aces.
 
For the Golden Bears, Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) finished with seven kills and six digs. Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) totaled four kills and eight digs, while Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City) totaled a team-best 19 assists to go along with her nine digs.
 
Niki Carpenter (King of Prussia, Pa./Upper Merion Area) tallied three kills, four digs and seven blocks, while sophomore Carly Shortridge (West Chester, Pa./West Chester East) chipped in with three service aces.
 
Prior to the match, KU president Dr. Kenneth S. Hawkinson, alongside coaches and parents, honored the team's two seniors beginning with Emily Kopinski (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh).
 
Kopinski played in 116 career matches for the Golden Bears and had 18 matches with double-digit digs. She recorded over 150 digs in each of her final three seasons and double-digit service aces in every season.
 
She recorded a career-high 17 digs last season against Gannon and totaled a career-high four service aces on four separate occasions.
 
Stringer also wrapped up her illustrious career at Kutztown on Satuday. The two-time All-PSAC First Team selection finished the season with the second-most blocks in a single season in KU history (156). For her career, her 416 total blocks rank fourth all-time at KU.
 
In addition to ranking in the top 10 in multiple statistical categories in the PSAC this season, Stringer's 357 kills rank eighth in KU single-season history.

Despite graduating some special players, KU will return many young, talented student-athletes next season along with a handful of skilled veterans.
