KUTZTOWN, Pa. – 10 members of the Kutztown University softball team were named 2014-15 National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division II All-America Scholar-Athletes on Tuesday.
Colleen Smith (Islip Terrace, N.Y./East Islip (Hofstra)),
Dominique Ficara (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional (Hofstra)),
Danielle Sienko (Philadelphia, Pa./William Penn Charter),
Krista Schauder (Gilbertsville, Pa./Boyertown Area),
Rachel Lawes (Reading, Pa./Governor Mifflin),
Justine Rossi (Hazleton, Pa./Hazleton Area),
Marissa Linquist (West Deptford, N.J./West Deptford),
Lisa Lawson (Morgantown, Pa./Twin Valley),
Melissa Albe (Kintnersville, Pa./Palisades) and
Casey Charterina (Brick, N.J./Brick Memorial) each earned the prestigious honor for the Golden Bears.
Smith, Sienko and Lawes were named NFCA All-America Scholar-Athletes for the second time in their careers.
5,493 softball players across seven membership divisions earned NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete honors for the 2014-15 academic year. Athletes who achieve a 3.5 or better GPA on a 4.0 scale are recognized as NFCA Scholar-Athletes.
