EDINBORO, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team fell 4-1 on Saturday to Edinboro University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match on a seasonably cold afternoon featuring heavy snowfall in the second half at Sox Harrison Stadium.
Kutztown (8-4-1, 8-4 PSAC) could not rebound from a slow start as Edinboro (9-5, 8-4) scored three goals in the first half and ultimately ended the Golden Bears' five-game winning streak.
Freshman
Alyssa Ryan (North Wales, Pa./Wissahickon) continued to impress in her debut campaign for the Golden Bears, netting her fourth goal of the season after a breakaway in the 29th minute.
The Fighting Scots outshot KU 16-6 (11-3 in shots on goal), and held a 7-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Because of the heavy wintery mix and snowfall during the game, the teams were forced to use a red ball.
With four matches remaining in the regular season, the Golden Bears are tied for third with Edinboro in the PSAC standings with 24 points. The top eight teams reach the playoffs. Three teams are currently tied for the eighth spot in the standings with 19 points.
Up next, KU hosts Mansfield on Wednesday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m. at Keystone Field.
