Front Line Impresses in Women’s Volleyball Sweep of Slippery Rock

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team held a 14-1 advantage in blocks on Friday morning over Slippery Rock University, and captured a 3-0 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover match held at Keystone Arena.
 
Kutztown (5-16, 3-7 PSAC) carried momentum throughout the match following a resilient come-from-behind victory in the opening set.
 
Slippery Rock (8-15, 1-9) led by scores of 18-13, 22-17 and 24-21 in the opening frame, but the Golden Bears stayed with it and emerged with a 28-26 win.
 
In the second set, KU jumped out to an 8-3 lead and held on for a 25-18 victory. The Golden Bears got off to a hot start again in the third set and led comfortably throughout on its way to a 25-16 decisive set win.
 
KU played well defensively as three different Golden Bears recorded double-digit digs and four players tallied at least four blocks.
 
As a team, the last time the Golden Bears recorded 14 or more blocks in a single match was on Sept. 5, 2013 in a five-set match against Caldwell University.
 
The Maroon and Gold also played very efficiently on offense, recording only five total attack errors. Slippery Rock finished with 32 attack errors.
 
Freshman Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) recorded a team-high 11 kills, while senior Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) finished with eight kills and eight blocks.
 
Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) totaled five kills and 13 digs. Shannon Restrepo (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) finished with three kills, 17 assists, nine digs, and two service aces.
 
Kutztown is back in action tonight, Friday, Oct. 16 at 7:30 against Edinboro University at Keystone Arena.
