KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team showed it can keep pace with perennial power Edinboro University on Friday night, but fell 3-0 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Crossover match at Keystone Arena. Edinboro won by set scores of 25-15, 25-20 and 25-20.
In the opening set, KU held an 8-7 lead before Edinboro used a 13-3 run to take control. In the second frame, the set was knotted at 17-17 but the Fighting Scots closed with an 8-3 run.
The Golden Bears (5-17, 3-8 PSAC), were neck-and-neck with Edinboro (21-2, 10-1) again in the final set, down by just one at 19-18, but were unable to capture a lead.
Senior
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) led the way for the Golden Bears posting team-highs in kills (seven) and blocks (six). For her career, she currently sits at 999 kills.
Junior
Tori Wakelee (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) totaled four kills, five digs, and a career-high five blocks. Earlier on Friday, Wakelee set her previous career-high of four blocks against Slippery Rock.
Jessica Howe (Chambersburg, Pa./Chambersburg Area) tallied six kills and three digs, while
Shannon Restrepo (Reading, Pa./Exeter Township) collected two kills, 13 assists and seven digs.
The Maroon and Gold continue to host PSAC Crossover action on Saturday, Oct. 17, and take on Mercyhurst at 10 a.m. at Keystone Arena. KU will wrap up the weekend against Gannon at 6 p.m.
