Women's Soccer Extends Win Streak to Five With 3-1 Victory Over Bloomsburg

Video Highlights: WFMZ

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's soccer team kept rolling on Tuesday afternoon, recording its fifth-straight victory with a 3-1 triumph over Bloomsburg University in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) match held at Keystone Field.

Kutztown (8-3-1, 8-3 PSAC) scored twice in the first half and kept Bloomsburg (7-5-1, 6-5-1) off the board until the 54th minute.

Senior midfielder Diana Malanga (Lavallette, N.J./St. Rose) opened the scoring at 28:42 when she deposited the rebound off a free kick from Logan Kramer (Millersville, Pa./Penn Manor (Arkansas State)). Malanga has now scored a goal in each of KU's last three matches. She moves into a tie for seventh in KU history (Kim Kelty 2004-07, Chelsea Bressler 2008-09) with 20 career goals.

The Golden Bears took a 2-0 lead moments later when Brooke May (East Berlin, Pa./Dover Area) buried a fantastic strike into the upper left-hand side of the goal from across the box at 30:07.

The Huskies responded with a goal at 53:48 when Rachel Yenney capitalized on a header to cut the KU lead to 2-1.

In the 81st minute, senior Sam Busillo (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) showed great hustle and determination as she drove past defenders and into the box where she drew a foul. She then sealed the lead for Kutztown after making it 3-1 with a successful penalty kick.

The Golden Bears held a 17-11 lead in shots and a 9-4 advantage in corner kicks.

Sophomore goalkeeper Deanna Messner (Willow Grove, Pa./Archbishop Wood) made six saves on the afternoon.

KU is currently in third place in the PSAC standings with five matches remaining. The top eight teams earn a PSAC Tournament berth.

The Maroon and Gold look to continue their hot streak at Edinboro on Saturday, Oct. 17 at 1 p.m.
