Women’s Basketball Falls in Non-Conference Action in Philadelphia

HTML Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Following a tie game with less than three minutes to play, the University of the Sciences ended the game on a 13-4 run to preserve its 10-game winning streak and down the Kutztown University women's basketball team 77-68 in a non-conference game at Morgan Arena on Monday evening.

Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) scored her career-high 21st point of the night with 2:47 to play to tie the game at 64-64, but Sciences answered with five straight points by Colleen Walsh to give it a five-point lead over KU with 1:54 to go.

Kutztown went more than two minutes without a field goal as Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton)'s layup with 40 seconds to play kept KU within five points at 73-68. However, KU was unable to score for the remainder of the game as free throws lifted the Devils to a 77-68 win on their home floor for their 10th consecutive win.

Campbell was Kutztown's top option offensively with a 9-for-15 shooting performance for a career-high 21 points and nine rebounds. Watson was one of three double-digit scorers for Kutztown with 12 points and four assists, followed by Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, Pa./Northampton Area)'s 11 points and five rebounds.

The Golden Bears (6-11) shot better from the field than the Devils (12-4) by four percent, out-rebounded the Devils by four, but were outscored by 10 points from three-point range as Sciences made 12 triples to Kutztown's two.

Brianne Traub led Sciences with 23 points and seven rebounds, and was one of four double-digit scorers. Kaitlyn Schmid and Laura Trisch scored 13 points, and Jessica Sylvester finished with 10.

The Golden Bears have a bye on Wednesday's conference date, and return to action at home at Keystone Arena against East Stroudsburg on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to wear white to the game in support of KU's 'White Out' campaign.
