Box Score Photo GalleryKUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's volleyball team used a complete team effort from 17 Golden Bears to sweep Albright College on Monday night in the team's home opener at Keystone Arena.
The Golden Bears (4-1) have played five matches in the last four days and used Monday night's non-conference match to rest some heavily used players and give others additional playing time.
Returning All-PSAC middle hitter
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) continued her strong start to the season with a team-high eight kills on 10 attacks. Most of her kills came on quick sets from
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), who tallied 23 assists while splitting time with freshman setter
Madisyn Kleinfelter (Jonestown, Pa./Northern Lebanon) (9 assists).
Senior
Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) shined in front of many fellow KU student-athletes in the stands with a career-high seven kills on a team-high 19 attacks. She also tallied five digs. Fellow senior
Kelsey Kromer (Clifton Park, N.Y./Shenendehowa) tied her career-high with six kills on eight attacks.
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) added five kills in two sets and freshman
Cara Reilly (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) built her experience and added four kills. As a team, Kutztown recorded an efficient .348 hitting percentage with 40 kills compared to nine errors, including just two in each of the first two sets.
Defensively, five Golden Bears had five or more digs, led by
Kim Groff (Audubon, Pa./Methacton (Moravian))'s 10. Braga picked up nine digs as Conti added eight. York and Reilly each had five.
The front line of
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley), Stringer,
Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic),
Rachael Picozzi (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton),
Abbe Ahern (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) and Kromer teamed up for five total blocks on the night.
Albright's Claudia Guise led the team with six kills, followed by Brandy Blimline with five. Guise also picked up a team-best 11 assists with six digs.
The Golden Bears hopefully enjoyed playing in front of their home fans as they will not return to action at Keystone Arena until Oct. 7. Non-conference action continues on Friday, Sept. 12 at Philadelphia University beginning at 7 p.m.
