Aly York (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone), the Kutztown University women's volleyball team held off a surging East Stroudsburg University squad to secure the 3-1 victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division matchup Tuesday night from Koehler Fieldhouse.
Kutztown (7-6, 2-5 PSAC E) was victorious in the first two sets by scores of 25-17 and 25-21, before the Warriors (4-11, 0-7) made a statement victory in the third (25-13). In the fourth set, the two teams were tied up at 21-21. The squads traded blows until another tie at 26, before the Maroon and Gold were able to secure the match (28-26).
Tuesday night's conquest marks the 10th-straight win for KU over the Warriors, dating back to 2009.
York and fellow senior
Chelsea Braga (Long Beach, N.Y./Long Beach (Fairleigh Dickinson)) led the KU attack to victory. York put down a career-high 14 kills, while adding three digs and a block assist to her stat line. Braga ranked second on the team with 13 kills, her second-highest output this season, and added 10 digs on the defensive side.
Danielle Van Buren (Bethlehem, Pa./Saucon Valley) contributed seven kills, three assists and three digs, while
Audrey Stringer (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) tallied six kills. The duo notched two blocks each.
Zandria Zielinski (York, Pa./York Catholic) and
Cara Reilly (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) each threw down five kills, while Zielinski led the team with three blocks.
Madison Brake (Reynoldsburg, Ohio/Bishop Hartley),
Anna Conti (Grove City, Ohio/Grove City), and
Emily Kopinski (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) combined to tally 50 digs. Brake's 22 digs was a game high and her second-best yield this year. Conti recorded 37 assists from the setter positon.
The Maroon and Gold have won two of three Eastern Division matches this season and are currently in a four-way tie for third place in the division.
Kutztown will travel to Shippensburg this Friday, Oct. 3 for a PSAC contest starting at 7 p.m.
