Box Score MANSFIELD, Pa. – After surrendering two goals in the first half,
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) fired up the offense right out of the gate in the second half, but the Kutztown University field hockey team couldn't find the equalizer as Mansfield University went on to win 2-1 Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Karl Van Norman Field.
Pondering a 2-0 deficit at the halftime break, Behm was able to break free from the Mansfield (2-4, 2-2 PSAC) defense five minutes into the second half, taking the breakaway and lifting the ball into the top-left corner to put Kutztown (3-3, 2-2 PSAC) back into the game.
The Golden Bears fired off 12 shots in the second half as they poured on the offensive pressure. Mountie keeper Laura Lawson came up big, recording seven saves in the final 45 minutes to preserve the victory for her team.
Chelsea Tanco put the Mounties up 1-0 in the fourth minute, poking it into the cage from under Chardonanny Hope's feet. Mansfield struck again at the 24-minute mark when Lacey Croasdale scored from outside the arc off a pass from Kayla Grunza.
Hope made three saves in net for the Maroon and Gold in the first half, with
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) finishing out the second half with two saves. Lawson finished the game with 10 saves for the Mounties.'
Behm recorded a game-high 10 shots, with five on goal.
Megan Tiwold (Northampton, Pa./Northampton) was on target four times off her seven strikes.
Behm already has more goals this season (9) through six games than she did in either of her first two seasons as a Golden Bear. The junior currently ranks second in the PSAC in goals, and leads the conference in shots-per-game.
Kutztown will have the week off until traveling to Indiana (PA) for a PSAC game on Saturday, Sept. 27 with a start time of 11 a.m.
