Box Score MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – Coming into the game riding a two-win hot streak, the Kutztown University field hockey team was held to one late goal on the Millersville University turf as the top team in the nation cruised to a 6-1 victory on Saturday afternoon in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup at Chryst Field.
Kutztown evens up to a 2-2 (1-1 PSAC) record after the defeat, while Millersville remains undefeated at 3-0 (1-0 PSAC).
The Golden Bears couldn't find an answer for Marauder forward Katelyn Zapp in the second half. The senior opened the scoring nine minutes into the game, and then tallied three more in the second half to finish with four goals on six shots.
Millersville substitutes Arianna Grays and Margaret Maclean recorded a goal each in the first half.
Anna Behm (Kutztown, Pa./Kutztown) continues to be the offensive center point for the Maroon and Gold. The junior forward was able to fire off six shots, but only hit the goal twice. She eventually connected on her final shot to give KU it's only goal with less than four minutes left in the game. Notably, that is the first goal Millersville has surrendered on its home field since Sept. 27, 2013.
Chardonnay Hope (New Castle, Del./William Penn) took the start in goal for the Golden Bears, recording eight saves in 53 minutes.
Kayla Denlinger (Manheim, Pa./Hempfield) subbed in relief for the final 17 minutes.
Kutztown continues its four-game conference run with a home matchup against Seton Hill University this Wednesday, Sept. 17 at 7 p.m. from University Field.
