Box Score Indiana (PA) 23, Kutztown 3 (HTML Box Score) KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The weather was certainly more pleasant than the outcome on Saturday afternoon, as the Kutztown University women's lacrosse team fell to seventh-ranked Indiana University (PA) 23-3 in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) matchup from Keystone Field.
With the win, IUP (10-2, 8-0 PSAC) remains flawless at the top of the conference. Kutztown (3-9, 1-7 PSAC) grabbed its first conference win last week against Millersville but could not keep the streak going today.
The Crimson Hawk's high-powered offense came out firing, scoring seven goals in the first 15 minutes of play. Sophomore
Devan Davis (Chester Springs, PA/Owen J. Roberts) connected on a free-position shot to put KU on the board, followed by a four-goal run by IUP. Junior
Jillian Spencer (Sewell, NJ/Washington Township) closed out the half with her team-leading 27th goal off of a pass from
Cara Lord (Media, PA/Penncrest).
With 8:35 remaining in the game, Spencer found freshman
Taylor Sandin (Freehold, NJ/Colts Neck) who knocked in Kutztown's final goal.
Spencer and Davis both led the team with two caused turnovers a piece. Senior
JoAnn McLaughlin (Cape May, NJ/Lower Cape) hung tough in net for the first 45 minutes, recording 12 saves. Freshman
Abby Cox (York, PA/West York) closed out the contest with four saves.
Brittney Palardy and Drew Hayden were unstoppable for IUP. Palardy tallied six goals, while Hayden recorded five goals and two assists. Alex Edwards, Kim Hooven and Brenna Gallagher each netted two goals, while Sarah Ward, Kiera Huntsman, and Carissa Smith each scored one.
Katie Davis, Sarah Knotts, and Chelsey Hipp all split time at goalkeeper for IUP.
Kutztown now heads on a three-game away stint, beginning with Mercyhurst University on Friday, April 18 at 11 a.m.
