Kutztown Bowling Wins Four Matches at Capital Classic on Saturday

DOVER, Del. – The ninth-ranked Kutztown University women's bowling team won its first four matches of the day to guide it to a third place finish in Saturday's one-day quad-baker style portion of the Capital Classic, hosted by Delaware State University.
 
The Golden Bears (63-35) won matches against Howard (723-671), North Carolina Central (819-705), 13th-ranked Adelphi (841-816), and New Jersey City (744-559) to start the day. They then went up against two nationally-ranked teams and suffered setbacks to fourth-ranked Fairleigh Dickinson (772-640) and 15th-ranked Delaware State (731-670).

Senior Deanna DiRado (Greensburg, PA/Greensburg Salem) led the group in quad-baker action on Saturday. She averaged 19.82 per frame in 47 frames. Lauren Stamm (Shillington, PA/Governor Mifflin) was second with a 19.1 frame average in 48 frames, and Christine Gordon (Cherry Hill, NJ/Cherry Hill East) was third with a 18.8 frame average in 35 frames.
 
FDU won Saturday's tournament with a total pinfall of 4845. Delaware State was scond at 4488, followed by Kutztown at 4437, St. Francis (NY) at 4380, and Adelphi at 4361.
 
Kutztown takes the next couple of weeks off and returns to action on Saturday, March 1 at the third Northeast Conference (NEC) Meet. The two-day tournament will take place in Long Island, NY and will be hosted by Adelphi.
