Live Stats | Live Audio | Game Notes

KUTZTOWN, Pa. – The Kutztown University women's basketball team travels to face West Chester University on Feb. 8 in a Saturday afternoon Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game at Hollinger Fieldhouse. Tipoff is set for 1 p.m.

The Golden Bears (7-13, 4-6 PSAC East) own a 2-10 record in their last 12 games, but they won against Mansfield 67-60 on Thursday. Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) tied a career-high by scoring 19 points off the bench. Kutztown shot 45.3 percent from the floor, which was the team's second-best shooting performance this season (45.9 percent at Clarion).

Meanwhile, the Golden Rams (15-6, 10-1) won the first meeting between the two teams in an 83-81 thriller at Keystone Arena. It was a memorable day for Kutztown, despite the loss. Junior Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) became the first Golden Bear to record a triple-double in program history, including a school record 10 blocks. Campbell was all over the court and put on a phenomenal performance against WCU, picking up 11 points, 15 rebounds to tie her career-high, and 10 blocks to be the first to pick up a triple-double. She also added seven steals.

Also against West Chester, freshman Jenna Altomare (Pennsylvania Furnace, Pa./State College Area) led Kutztown with a season-high 23 points. Altomare went 6-for-8 from the three-point line, one shy from tying the single-game record set by Amanda Zinboile with seven. It also marked the most points by a Kutztown freshman since Tricia McElmoyle scored 26 in her season-opener against Columbia Union in 2005.

LAST TIME OUT: The Golden Bears ended a five-game losing streak by defeating Mansfield, 67-60, Thursday night at Keystone Arena. KU shot over 45 percent for the second time this season, led by Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton)'s co-career-high 19 points on 6-of-9 shooting from the field. Campbell added 16 points, eight rebounds, five blocks, five steals and three assists. The win moves Kutztown 1.5 games ahead of Cheyney for the sixth and final PSAC East playoff spot.

STEALS APLENTY NO MORE? Kutztown collected 11 steals in Saturday's win, but the Golden Bears are averaging just eight steals per game over their last four. Although KU ranks third with 11 steals per game, they will need to get back to past ways (12 games with double-digit steals in their previous 13 games) to keep up with West Chester's PSAC-best 12.95 steals per game. Each team totaled 12 steals in the first meeting, in which the Golden Rams won, 83-81.

STATISTICAL ADVIA-TION: The production this year from Campbell soared impressively. She earned the program's first ever triple-double, including a school-record 10 blocks, in the first meeting against West Chester. She also made seven steals, her first of three such games this season. Campbell averages 10.0 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.2 steals (PSAC-best) and 2.4 blocks (second in the PSAC) per game this season.

MRS. RELIABLE: Through her three years at KU, junior guard/forward Alyssa Bonenberger (Walnutport, PA/Northampton Area) started 72 consecutive games and counting. With that, she's become one of the main focal points on offense. Her 9.8 points per game rank second on the team, while her 7.6 rebounds per game lead the Golden Bears. Her four double-doubles also mark a team-best this season. Finally, Bonenberger shoots 77.4 percent from the free-throw line.

BOARDED UP: The Golden Bears are looking to improve in a few major areas. The rebounding battle is one of them. Kutztown began the season with 144 rebounds in three games, earning a positive rebound margin in each game. Since then, the Golden Bears were outrebounded in 13 of their last 17 games. KU is on average outrebounded 39.88 to 35.12 in that span. Kutztown broke a nine-game losing streak when being outrebounded, after winning against Mansfield.

PSAC PLAYOFF PICTURE: Kutztown currently holds a 4-6 record in the PSAC East, ranking the team sixth in the division. The Golden Bears earned victories over East Stroudsburg, Cheyney and Mansfield (twice). West Chester leads the division at 10-1, while Bloomsburg ranks second at 9-2. They currently hold spots for a first-round bye in the PSAC Championship Tournament. To look farther, Shippensburg ranks third at 7-3 and East Stroudsburg ranks fourth at 7-4. To close, Millersville is fifth at 6-4, ahead of KU. The top six teams in each division make the tourney.

Looking in the Other Corner: the West Chester Golden Rams

STEALS APLENTY: West Chester leads the PSAC in steals per game, primarily because of the havoc created by the Golden Rams' full-court pressure defense. Three players are averaging at least 2.5 steals per game (Dallas Ely with 2.7 spg, Jasmen Clark with 2.6 spg and Brittany Sicinski 2.5 spg). Anna Kuntz ranks fourth on the team with 1.7 steals per game.

BIG D'S BIG OFFENSE: Sophomore guard Dallas Ely leads the Golden Rams (and the PSAC) with 19.7 points per game. This comes in large part from high-volume shooting, as she averages nearly 16 field goal attempts per game (including 7.9 three pointers per game). Still, she shoots 44.5 percent from the field and 34.3 percent from three-point range.

HEY THERE, COACH: Golden Rams head coach Deirdre Kane is in her 26th season as head coach. Through her first 25 years, she's led to WCU to 18 winning seasons and won five PSAC East titles (1992, 1997, 2003, 2004 and 2009). She also made the NCAA Division II Tournament four times (1997, 2001, 2003 and 2012). Kane owns a 428-295 record as head coach.
