KUTZTOWN, Pa. – Freshman forward Kelsey Watson (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) and junior forward Advia Campbell (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) were extremely effective from the floor and helped lead the Kutztown University women's basketball team to a 67-60 win on Thursday night in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division game and KUSSI Fan Appreciation Night at Keystone Arena.

Watson tied her season-high of 19 points from the season-opener. She shot 6-of-9 from the field, 7-for-11 from the free throw line, grabbed five rebounds, three steals and three assists in just 26 minutes of action. Campbell scored 16 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds with a game-high five blocks and five steals.

Thursday night's game was nearly a carbon-copy of the team's first meeting back on Dec. 4. Like in the first game, the Golden Bears (7-13, 4-6 PSAC) got out to a strong lead early, and maintained a double-digit lead in the second half. The Mountaineers (0-21, 0-11), though, were poised to not give up and fight to the finish in hopes of their first win of the season.

The first half was tightly contested for the first 14 minutes. It wasn't until the final six minutes of the half that Kutztown built a run towards its first double-digit lead of the game. A 10-0 spurt, eight of which from Campbell, gave KU a 29-17 lead with three minutes to play. KU led by 10 (36-26) at halftime.

Kutztown's lead grew to a game-high 16 points with 13:49 left to play in the game. Mansfield countered with a 16-6 run in which it forced five KU turnovers and brought the game to 52-46 with 8:31 to play. Mansfield continued to fight for buckets down the stretch as it cut the deficit to one possession (61-58) with 1:28 to play.

In the final minute, Kutztown shot 6-of-8 from the free throw line, and its defense held Mansfield to one field goal to pull out the victory.

Kutztown shot 45.3 percent from the field as the team and did not make a three-pointer for the second time this season (0-for-8). Mansfield won the rebounding battle 43-31, including 20 offensive rebounds, but turned the ball over five more times than Kutztown.

Mansfield was led by Jena Metter, who scored her 1,000th career point in the setback, the 15th Mountaineer to do so in program history. She notched a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds with a team-high four assists. Katie Fitzpatrick (13) and Tianna Jackson (12) also scored in double figures.

The Golden Bears sit in sixth place in the Eastern Division, the final spot to earn a bid to the PSAC Tournament in March. They take on top-ranked West Chester (15-6, 10-1) on Saturday, Feb. 8 for a 1 p.m. tipoff. KU fell to West Chester at Keystone Arena earlier this season, 83-81.
